ISI Admission Test 2016 - Application Form, Dates, Eligibility

Indian Statistical Institute ISI, Kolkata has announced ISI Admission Test 2016. Applications are invited for ISI Kolkata Admission Test 2016 for admission to B.Stat (Hons), B.Math (Hons), M.Stat, M.Math, MS (QE), MS (QMS), MS (LIS), M.Tech (CS), M.Tech (QROR), PG Diplomas and Research Fellowships for the academic year 2016-17.

Important Dates

  • Online Application Starts: 09th February 2016
  • Payment of Application Fee Starts: 11th February 2016
  • Online Application Ends: 11th March 2016
  • Payment of Application Fee Ends: 18th March 2016
  • Issue of Admit Card/info booklet via post/portal: 4th April 2016
  • ISI Admission Test: 08th May 2016

Academic Programmes Offered: Eligibility, Stipend

  • B Stat (Hons) (3-year): Successful completion of Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent with Mathematics and English Stipend Rs.3000/- per month (Offered at Kolkata)
  • B Math (Hons) (3-year): Successful completion of Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent with Mathematics and English Stipend Rs.3000/- per month (Offered at Bengaluru)
    For the above two programs, eligible Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) Awardees of any previous year need not sit for the written test. Such candidates would be directly called for interview but are required to apply in the prescribed application form like all other
  • M Stat (2-year): 3-year Bachelor’s degree with Statistics as a full subject, or a B Stat/B Math Degree/PG Diploma in Statistical Methods and Analytics from ISI Stipend Rs.5000/- per month (Offered at Delhi and Chennai)
  • M Math (2-year): 3-year Bachelor’s degree or a BE/B.Tech degree, with Mathematics and an exceptionally strong background in Analysis and Abstract Algebra or a B Stat/B Math degree from ISI Stipend Rs.5000/per month (Offered at Kolkata)
  • Master of Science (MS) in Quantitative Economics (2-year): 3-year Bachelor’s degree in Economics/Mathematics/Statistics/Physics or a B Stat degree from ISI or a BE/B.Tech degree with knowledge of Economics and Mathematics at the undergraduate level Stipend Rs.5000/- per month (Offered at Kolkata and Delhi)
  • Master of Science (MS) in Quality Management Science (2-year): 3-year Bachelor's degree with Mathematics. Graduate Engineers are also eligible to apply Stipend Rs.5000/- per month (Offered at Bengaluru-Hyderabad)
  • Master of Science (MS) in Library and Information Science (2-year): 3-year Bachelor’s degree in any discipline Stipend Rs.5000/- per month (Offered at Bengaluru)
  • M.Tech in Computer Science (2-year):
    (i) Master's degree in Mathematics/Statistics/Physics/ Electronic Science/ Computer Science/ Computer Applications/IT or,
    (ii) Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology or any other qualification considered equivalent (such as AMIE or, GRAD-IETE or, DOEACC ‘B’ Level) Stipend Rs.8000/- per month (Offered at Kolkata)
    A candidate with a valid GATE scores above a threshold in his/her own subject would be directly called for interview
  • M.Tech in Quality, Reliability & Operations Research (2-year): (i) Master's degree in Statistics or Master's degree in Mathematics with Probability and Statistics as major subjects or Bachelor’s degree in Engg/Technology or equivalent or PG diploma in SQC or from ISI and;
    (ii) Knowledge of Mathematics at graduate level and knowledge of Physics & Chemistry at Higher Secondary Level. Stipend Rs.8000/- per month (Offered at Kolkata)
  • PG Diploma in Statistical Methods and Analytics (1-year): Graduate in any stream including Engineering/Technology with one paper in Mathematics Stipend Rs.2000/- per month (Offered at ISI NE Centre at Tezpur, exclusively for the domiciled North-East students)
  • PG Diploma in Computer Applications (1-year): 3-year Bachelor's degree with Mathematics as one of the subjects. A candidate who was asked to discontinue any of the above programs is not eligible for readmission to the same program (Offered at Giridih)

Junior Research Fellowship JRF

  • Statistics: A good academic record with M Stat, MA/M.Sc or equivalent degree in Statistics; or outstanding mathematical maturity with B Stat/B Math, B.A/B.Sc or equivalent degree with Statistics as the main subject (Offered at Kolkata, Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai)
  • Mathematics: A good academic record with M Stat, M Math, M.A/M.Sc or equivalent degree in Mathematics; or outstanding mathematical maturity with B Stat/B Math, B.A/B.Sc or equivalent degree with Mathematics as the main subject (Offered at Kolkata, Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai)
  • Quantitative Economics: A good academic record with MS (QE), M Stat, M.A/M.Sc or equivalent degree in Statistics/Mathematics/Economics/Econometrics; or outstanding Mathematical Maturity with BA/B.Sc degree with Economics as the main subject (Offered at Kolkata & Delhi)
  • Computer Science: A good academic record with ME/M.Tech or equivalent degree in Electronics/Telecommunication/Radio Physics/Computer Science/Electrical Engg/Microwave Communications/ Information Technology/ Bioinformatics/Biotechnology with Mathematics as a compulsory subject at the graduate level or a good academic record with M.Sc/ MCA/MA. Outstanding candidates having B.E/B.Tech or equivalent degree in the above subjects will also be eligible (Offered at Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru)
  • Quality, Reliability and Operations Research: A good academic record with M.Tech/ME/M.S/M.Phil or equivalent degree in Quality/Reliability/Operations Research or a good academic record with M.Stat/M.Sc/MA or equivalent degree in Mathematics/Statistics/Physics with Mathematics as a compulsory subject at the graduate level. Outstanding candidates having B.E/B.Tech or equivalent degree in the above subjects will also be eligible (Offered at Kolkata, Delhi and Chennai)
  • Physics and Applied Mathematics: A consistently good academic record with M.Sc in Physics/Mathematics/Statistics (Offered at Kolkata)
  • Agriculture & Ecology: A good academic record with M.Sc (Agriculture) in Agronomy /Biotechnology or M.Sc in Entomology/ Plant Pathology/ Botany/ Ecology/Nematology/ Zoology (desirable prior experience in plant nematological work) (Offered at Kolkata)
  • Geology: A good academic record with M Sc in Geology or equivalent (Offered at Kolkata)
  • Library and Information Science: A consistently good academic record with first or high second class in MS (LIS) awarded by ISI or Associateship in Documentation and Information Science of ISI or NISCAIR/INSDOC or its equivalent degree (such as Master's degree in Library and Information Science from any University) with at least 55% marks (Offered at Bengaluru)
  • Development Studies: A good academic record with Master's or M.Phil degree in Development Studies, Sociology, Economics, Development Economics, Agricultural Economics or any equivalent degree (Offered at Bengaluru)

How to Apply

  • Application Fee: Rs 600/- for all applicants in the general category and for all JRF programmes (irrespective of reservation category). Rs 300/- for applicants belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Physically Challenged categories, for all programmes (excluding the JRF programmes)
  • Candidates can apply online at ISI portal  http://www.isical.ac.in/~admission.
  • An applicant must have digital copy of his/her photograph( 600 pixels (width) × 600 pixels (height), maximum permissible image size being 50KB), scanned copy of signature (800 pixels (width) × 300 pixels (height), maximum permissible image size being 30KB), an email account.
  • The applicant must initially register at the ISI Admission Portal and create a login account, followed by the filling up of the application form and upload of the photograph and signature.
  • After completion of application at the ISI Admission Portal, the applicant will be directed to State Bank of India Collect website for fee payment (can be done only after two working days from the date of completion of application).
  • The applicant will need APPLICATION NO. and DATE OF BIRTH information for payment of application fee. APPLICATION NO. can be retrieved after selecting ADMISSION STATUS link of the ISI Admission Portal.

Pattern and Test Centres


Admit Card

After the applications are processed at ISI, the Admit Card for the Admission Test along with the Registration Number, will be generated, tentatively after April 04, 2016. Applicants will receive a link containing the above information in his/her account and will need to take printout of the Admit Card.
