West Bengal Post Graduate Dental Admission Test | WBPGDAT 2016, Application Form, Dates

The West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS), Kolkata has announced West Bengal Post Graduate Dental Admission Test (WBPGDAT) 2016 for admission into Postgraduate dental courses (MDS) for the academic year 2016-2017. This state level examination is conducted once in a year to offer admission to MDS courses in dental colleges located in Gujarat.

Important dates

  • Forms to be Submitted Online: 04th December 2015 (08.00 PM) - 24th December 2015 (11.00 PM)
  • Offline Payment through e-Challan will be accepted by the bank within banking hours of 23rd December 2015
  • Submission of Print-copy of Forms at WB University: 07th to 28th December 2015
  • Print-copies will not be received in the office of the WBUHS in person after 28th December 2015
  • However, print-copies sent by Speed/ Registered post will be received up to 30th December 2015
  • Admit Card to be Downloaded: 07th January 2016 (10.00 am, onwards)
  • Date of Admission Test WBPGDAT: 10th January 2016 (Sunday, 12.00 noon to 01.20 pm)
  • Declaration of Result WBPGDAT on or before 07th February 2016
  • Date of Counselling: To be notified on or before 01st March 2016
  • Session to Start From: 02nd May 2016


Open Category
  1. Any candidate employed in any organization in Government, semi-government, Autonomous bodies, Private organization may apply under Open Category.
  2. Candidates must have registered with permanent registration number given by the West Bengal Dental Council or Dental Council of India or any other council. 
  3. Candidates, who passed BDS from affiliated colleges of WBUHS and their internship is to be completed on or before 31 March, 2016 will not require putting permanent registration number. Such group of candidates will have to submit provisional registration number.

West Bengal Government Sponsored Seats
Candidates applying for the Govt. sponsored seats must be is in regular service of the Government of West Bengal under the Health and Family Welfare Deptt. and is sponsored by the WBDS/WBDES, Govt. of West Bengal shall be eligible to apply for admission even if such candidates obtained their B.D.S. degree from any other Institution located outside the State of West Bengal, which is recognized by DCI. Such candidates will be required to produce necessary sponsorship certificate from the Government of West Bengal before being considered for admission on the day of counseling.

How to Apply

  • First step – Registration – Candidates will fill up basic details in the form. Identification number will be generated. User Name and pass word will also be generated and will be communicated to his/her email. 
  • Second step – Log in with user name and pass word and then change his or her pass word. User name and pass word must be kept confidential and ready for use.
  • Third step – Fill On-line application form. Be careful in selecting/writing option/s and put the appropriate data.
  • Fourth Step
    (a) Using Identification number, if a candidate opts for the online payment then instant generation of payment receipt (via bill desk) will be available after successful transaction.
    (b) Off line generation e-challan is also available for the candidate as an alternative option. After payment of Rs 3000/- in any branch of United Bank of India with the print copy of the e challan the candidate has to view payment status and get Transaction ID. Payment made by 4.00 pm will be updated on the same day after 8.00 pm. For off-line and online payment Rs. 40/- will be paid for bank charges.
  • Fifth step - After confirmation of payment (online instant and offline after 8 pm on the day of payment) candidate will be able to upload his/her photo and signature. 
  • Sixth step – Take print out of the form and make it photocopied. Keep one photocopy for himself or herself and in the other copy, paste similar photo of appropriate size as mentioned earlier, sign it and then submit to the University by hand or speed post within time frame.

Test Pattern

  • The question paper for the written test shall be set in English and shall contain 100 single best response type Multiple Choice Questions.
  • The duration of the written test will be 80 minutes.
  • A candidate will be awarded four 1 marks for each correct answer. No mark will be deducted for incorrect answer or multiple answer. No mark will be awarded for un-attempted answer.
  • The following is the list showing the tentative number of questions from different subjects which will be set in the written test:
    1. General & Oral human Anatomy, General human Physiology, Biochemistry, Dental Materials, General & Oral Pathology and Microbiology, General & Dental Pharmacology and Therapeutics, General 6 Medicine, General Surgery, Community Medicine- 40 nos.
    2. Prosthodontics, Crown & Bridge, Conservative Dentistry including Endodontics, Pedodontics, Oral Surgery, Periodontics, Orthodontics, Oral Medicine (Oral Diagnosis) and Radiology- 60 nos.
