Indian Institute of Science (IISc Bangalore) , has announced Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2016. GATE 2016 will be conducted on January 30 & 31, 2016 as well as February 6 & 7, 2016. GATE is a All India Entrance Examination for admissions to the M.Tech, M.E courses at the IITs, NITs and many private universities and institutes across the country.
Several public sector undertakings, have, in the past, used GATE scores for screening. A select few such organizations are: Indian Oil Corporation Limited, National Thermal Power Corporation, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Power Grid India.

Some changes have been announced by IISc Bangalore namely- the use of the online calculator during exam, revised GATE syllabus, New GATE Paper Petroleum Engineering.

Application Procedure

  1.  For GATE 2016 the entire process of filling up of application form, uploading of certificates/documents etc., will be online and the candidates should not send any hard copy of their application form/documents etc., to IISc or any of the IIT’s zonal GATE office.
  2. The payment of application fees would be through electronic mode online as well as through payment at bank counters using e-challan.
  3. The admit cards for GATE 2016 would be available through the online process only.
  4. Candidates can download their admit card from GATE 2016 website. No printed copy of admit cards will be posted to the candidates.

GATE Application Fee 

  1. Women candidates :  Rs. 750
  2. SC/ST/PwD category candidates : Rs. 750
  3. All other candidates : Rs. 1500

 GATE Papers 

A candidate is allowed to appear in ONLY ONE of the 23 papers for which GATE 2016 examination is being held, the candidate has to make the choice of the paper he/she wishes to write carefully.

 GATE Examination Pattern 

  1. The GATE examination consists of a single paper of 3-hour duration that contains 65 questions carrying a maximum of 100 marks. The question paper will consist of both multiple choice questions (MCQ) and numerical answer type (NAT) questions.
  2.  In all the papers, there will be a total of 65 questions carrying 100 marks, out of which 10 questions carrying a total of 15 marks will be on General Aptitude (GA).
  3. In the papers bearing the codes AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PE, PI, TF and XE, the Engineering Mathematics will carry around 15% of the total marks, the General Aptitude section will carry 15% of the total marks and the remaining 70% of the total marks is devoted to the subject of the paper.
  4. In the papers bearing the codes AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH and XL, the General Aptitude section will carry 15% of the total marks and the remaining 85% of the total marks is devoted to the subject of the paper.
  5. For 1-mark multiple-choice questions, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. Likewise, for 2-mark multiple-choice questions, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. There is NO negative marking for numerical answer type questions. 

GATE 2016 Results 

  1. GATE 2016 results will be announced on March 19, 2016 at 17:00 hours and will be available on the GATE Online Application Website.
  2. GATE 2016 score is valid for THREE YEARS from the date of announcement of the results.

GATE 2016 Score Card 

  1. The GATE 2016 score cards can be downloaded between March 27, 2016 to May 29, 2016 and for that the candidate should access the GOAPS portal.
  2. In case any candidate requires the soft copy of his/her GATE Score Card after May 29, 2016 till December 31, 2016, they can do so by paying a fee of Rs 500 on the GOAPS portal.
