CAT 2015, Notification, Application, Dates, Eligibility

IIMs have released notification for CAT 2015. CAT 2015 will be conducted on a single day (in two slots), on 29 November, 2015. The test will be a pre-requisite for admissions into the Post Graduate Programmes of Management in IIMs. Further details, including Applications, Information Brochures, Registration fee to be paid, Last date etc., are made available here.

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology (4 years after 10+2/ Post B.Sc./ Post Diploma) or BE/ B.Tech. equivalent examinations, of Professional Societies, recognized by MHRD/ UPSC/ AICTE (e.g. AMIE by Institution of Engineers -India, AMICE by the Institute of Civil Engineers India).
  2. Any Qualification recognized by Association of Indian Universities New Delhi, which is equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree awarded by UGC recognized University/ Institutions.
  3. The candidate must have passed qualifying examination, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PWD)/Differently Abled (DA) category).
  4. Candidates appearing for the final year of Bachelor’s Degree/ equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. If selected, such candidates will be allowed to join the programme provisionally, only if he/ she submits a certificate latest by 30th June, 2016 from the Principal/ Registrar of his/ her College/ Institute (issued on or before 30th June, 2016) stating that the candidate has completed all the requirements for obtaining the bachelor’s degree/ equivalent qualification on the date of the issue of the certificate.
  5. Cases not covered above equivalency certificate to be produced from Association of Indian Universities New Delhi.


  1. The test will have three sections - QA (Quantitative Aptitude), DILR (Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning), VRC (Verbal and Reading Comprehension).
  2. No. of questions per section - QA 34, DILR 32, VRC 34.
  3. Test-taker cannot move across sections at any point through the test. The sections are individually-timed, each allotted a duration of 60 min each, i.e., an overall time of 180 min.
  4. Non-MCQ type questions are being introduced in CAT 2015 - a few answers will have to be typed on the screen.
  5. Use of basic on-screen calculator will be permitted during the test.


As per the Government of India requirements, 15% of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates. 27% of seats are reserved for Other Backward Classes candidates belonging to the “non - creamy” layer (NC - OBC). 3% seats are reserved for Differently Abled (DA) candidates.

  1. Each IIM shortlists candidates for its second stage of selection which may be different for each IIM.
  2. The process may include Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI).
  3. Performance in CAT 2015 examination is an important component in the admission process.
  4. IIMs may use previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience and other similar inputs in short listing and ranking of candidates at various stages of the admission process.
  5. The processes, academic cut-offs and the weights allocated to the evaluation parameters may vary across IIMs.
